In a low mountain range with the river Rhone to the north and west, The Guiers to the south and the Chartreuse and the Epine mountain to the east, the Savoyard outerland is the gateway to the Northern Alps. Situated on the border of the Savoy and the Dauphiné, the numerous castles and strongholds are a reminder that this was once on an important route.
This region has adopted the stone and the adobe bricks from the Dauphiné.
